Job Descriptions for Open PTA Roles

 In News

We’d love your help next year. Take a look at the following roles, big and small, and let us know how you’d like to get involved.

PROGRAMS

Family Art Nights

Family arts night brings Sawdust and other community artists to TOW to facilitate an art project that is specifically designed for the whole family to work on together. Volunteers work with chair Christian Shook to facilitate the events throughout the year.

Student Art Contests & Exhibitions – FILLED!

The National PTA and our community put on amazing art contests throughout the year, including Reflections and Imagination Celebration. Volunteers help collect, mat and label art projects, display projects at the school, as well as find new ways to encourage school-wide participation.

Spelling Bee (5th grade parent) – FILLED!

We need a parent of an incoming 5th grader to chair the spelling bee. This event will be held in the Fall in conjunction with El Morro. The chair can also look into registering TOW for the National spelling bee so winners can go on to compete at the county and state levels!

Staff Appreciation Week – FILLED!

A week in May filled with treats, gifts and love to show how much we value our TOW teachers and staff. Chair will come up with events throughout the week to show appreciation, secure food donations and manage parent volunteers. Past events include breakfast, luncheon, ice cream social, and homemade flower and card day.

Welcome Back Luncheon – FILLED!

A luncheon for staff and teachers the week before school begins, as PTA’s way of saying “welcome back.” Chair would coordinate decorations and food.

Talent Show – FILLED!

A big production usually held in late January, in need of stage parents and organizers! Committee members work with chair Arlene LaLouette to manage rehearsals, organize the event itself, including trolley and red carpet, and keep things calm onstage and off.

Reading Counts

A new reading program coming to TOW! Chair would figure out and facilitate an incentive prize system to reward readers for hard work. This is your chance to help shape a new program at TOW.

Bingo Night

A fun back-to-school evening event that brings families together. Chair facilitates prizes, MC, food trucks, etc. to make it all come together. Timing in Jan/Feb.

FUNDRAISERS

Jog-A-Thon Fundraiser

We need committee members to make this huge fundraiser come together. We need volunteers to solicit sponsorship from local businesses, help with the flow of kids and management of the day, work on the t-shirt, and figure out food and prizes. This fundraiser is held at the end of March.

Free Money Program

We need someone to coordinate and promote the Box Tops and scrip programs. These programs can make a big difference if all families participate!

Grocery Store Donations

We need a single contact person who can establish relationships with the local grocery stores to secure donations for PTA events. All of our local stores are very generous, and if we ask regularly we can get many supplies donated for our events.

School-wide Carnival

A new event! We need creative, excited committee members to plan and execute this fundraiser under the direction of chair Diana Conley. Event date likely in early Fall.

COMMUNICATIONS

Website/Google Calendar – FILLED!

Do you know WordPress? Our website is new this year; we want to find someone to continue to improve and evolve it, as well as do weekly updates. This person would also manage updates to the Google Calendar.

Marquee – FILLED!

You know those letters on the sign on the lawn? Yep. Someone needs to put them there. It takes about 30 minutes to update the sign each week. And we are open to fun ideas for the sign!

Weekly Update

Are you a super organized, marketing writer or editor? The PTA puts together the Weekly Update for the principal every week. We need a volunteer to collect the weekly events and compile the newsletter in Word format, manage edits from the front office, then turn over a final draft. This job takes 1-2 hours (depending on the week) on Wednesdays and a bit of editing time on Thursday mornings.

PTA Blasts

Do you excel at attention-grabbing headlines and eye-catching visuals? Do you know Constant Contact? We need someone to write, create and schedule the PTA email blasts that go out from Constant Contact. Warning: May involve reaching out to committee chairs and paying close attention to the calendar! This job will take an hour or two every week.

Thriva/Payment Processing – FILLED!

Thriva is the big system that we use for after-school sign ups, and payment for events, etc. We’re thinking about ways to improve, other event management options, how we can save on fees. If this kind of thing is in your wheelhouse, we’d love to know.

PR/Press Releases – FILLED!

We’re looking for someone who can help write press releases for local newspapers to get all of our wonderful programs the attention they deserve!

Social Media

Do you want a TOW Facebook site? Ok, make it happen! Want a Twitter feed for TOW—go for it! It’s easy to get this stuff up and running, but we need people to keep it going. Will take some time and dedication from someone who understands the power social media for communication.
