LBUSD Deadline: Thursday October 24th, 2024 by 3:00 pm

Reflections is open to all LBUSD students. Entries must be the work of one student and show a connection to the theme “Accepting Imperfection “. All submissions must include a title and artist statement. Students will submit their entries in one of the following divisions: Primary (Pre-K – Grade 2), Intermediate (Grades 3-5) or Special Artist (reserved for students who identify as having a disability and may receive services under IDEA or ADA: Section 504).

How to enter:

  1.  Click here to download the rules and entry form. A Spanish version also is available here.
  2. Have fun and start creating! If you need more detailed rules for a specific arts category, you can find them all at the California State PTA website. Please note that the artist statement accounts for 40 percent of a student’s score, so encourage your child to put some thought into it!
  3. Drop off your artwork and completed entry form at the TOW front office. The deadline is Thursday October 24th, 2024 by 3:00 pm

If you have questions or need to submit a physical entry form and artwork, please contact Reflections@LBPTACouncil.org.

All students are invited to participate and submit original artwork in any of the following six areas:

  • Dance Choreography
  • Film Production
  • Literature
  • Music Composition
  • Photography
  • Visual Arts
  • Special Artist Division

For specific rules by category,  please visit our Student Packet – available in English and Espanol.

Artworks are submitted first to school-level PTAs (like ours), where they are first recognized, celebrated and judged by five grade-level divisions, while a non-judged Special Artists division celebrates student artists with special needs. We then choose a selection of entries to be judged by local PTA units, which are then sent on to councils and then districts for consideration. The final artworks submitted to California State PTA by districts are then considered for Awards of Excellence or Awards of Merit. Award of Excellence entries then go on to represent California in the final National PTA judging round.

Please read the general rules and review the detailed information on the CA PTA website: http://capta.org/programs-events/reflections/

State-level Award of Excellence honorees receive:

  • The opportunity to showcase their artwork at the California State PTA Convention
  • Prizes including an Award of Excellence medal, certificate, and a $100 savings bond
  • An expense-paid trip for the award-winning student and one parent/guardian to the convention.

National-level Award of Excellence honorees are recognized at the National PTA Convention, plus their artworks are featured in Reflections’ popular traveling national exhibit.

PTA’s National Reflections Art Program has brought the arts to life for more than 10 million students since 1969.

Reflections encourage students of all ages to:

  • Unleash creative talents and be inspired
  • Express themselves imaginatively in their artwork
  • Experience the fun and joy of making art
  • Tap into critical-thinking skills to create art inspired by the annual theme
  • Receive positive recognition for their original works of art
